Journalist Munni Saha was arrested from Karwan Bazar in the city on 30th November. She was detained around 10 pm in a case filed in July, said DMP deputy commissioner (Media) Muhammad Talebur Rahman. According to police, Munni Saha went to a media office at Janata Tower in Kawran Bazar. While she was leaving the office by car, a group of people blocked her way. On receiving information, police rushed to the spot and rescued her from the people. Then she was taken to the Tejgaon Police Station first and later was shifted to the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) office on Minto Road. Multiple cases were filed against Munni Saha. Currently, she is working as an editor of an online portal called ‘Ek Takar Khabor’.
In fact, after the resign of last Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on 05 August, 2024, the law & order situation became very unstable in the country. Attack on the leaders & activists on previous ruling party is going on. Attacks, harass & killing the journalists & their families who worked for previous government are going on too.
Arif Hasan, the managing director of private television channel Desh TV, has been arrested by the police at night on 16 November at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. He is the general secretary of the Association of Television Channel Owners (ATCO).
Police have arrested Khagrachhari Journalists Union President Pradeep Chowdhury. He was arrested from the Milanpur area of the district town on 25th October. He was arrested in a case filed against Pradeep Chowdhury after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5. He is the Khagrachhari district correspondent of the daily Samakal.
Journalist M Kawsar injured by an attack while collecting news in Feni Sadar Upazila on 15th September. A case filed on 15th September against Editor of weekly Amod- Bakin Rabbi, Managing Editor Mohiuddin Molla, Own Reporter Taiyubur Rahman due to publish the news.
Few people attacked suddenly on S M Masud Rana and beaten him in the most busiest commercial area Motijheel of the capital on 12nd September. He is working in The Daily Morning Glory as News Editor.
The armed terrorists attacked journalist Abdur Rahim Rono & his wife to occupy his house on 1st September.
On August 23, 24 murder charges were filed against journalists of the country on behalf of the current interim government. Editor of the Daily Bhorer Kagoj- Shyamol Dutt, editor-in-chief of Ekattor TV- Mozammel Babu, TV journalist couple Shakil Ahmad & Farzana Rupa of Ekttar TV, writer Shariar Kabir have already been caught and then sent to the jail; others are Syed Ishtiaq Reza, Editor-in-Chief of Global TV; Munni Saha, ATN News Chief; Naimul Islam Khan, Editor of daily Amader Noyun Somoy and Ahmad Zobair Chief Editor of Somoy TV.
Two Somoy TV journalists, reporter Avijeet Banik Apu and cameraman Naushad Ahmed Chowdhury were attacked by a group of student protesters while covering a demonstration outside a secondary school in Sylhet on 17 August.
Moniruzzaman Monir, the Desh Rupantor daily newspaper’s correspondent in the central city of Narsingdi, sustained a gunshot injury during an attack by a group of assailants armed with machetes at the railway station on 13 August.
In the south-eastern city of Chattogram, 20 journalists were injured during an attack on the local press club on 5 August. Three journalists named Akter Faruk Shahin, Shafiqur Rahman & Alamin Sagor have been attacked on Sadar Road of Barisal while on duty to collect news on 5 August. Humayun Kabir, Coxś Bazar Correspondent of the Daily Gonomukti & Daily Morning Glory has been attacked on 5th August. Those people looted motorcycle & other valuable items, destroyed & burnt his house including furniture.
Journalist leaders are very anxious on such issues and they are delivering their speech continuously in the press to stop attack & harass on the journalists and let them work freely.
