On August 17, 2005, the banned militant organization Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) carried out a series of simultaneous bomb attacks across the country except Munshiganj district. Between 11:30 am and 11:30 am that day, militants detonated about 500 bombs in 450 places including press clubs, important facilities and 34 in Dhaka in 63 districts of the country. In this attack, 2 people were killed and about 200 people were injured. In protest and as a program of the central Awami League, on Wednesday (August 17th) afternoon, in front of the Noakhali District Awami League office, a protest rally was held by Noakhali District Awami League, Sadar Upazila Awami League, Municipal Awami League and allied organizations. District Awami League member and municipal Awami League president Abdul Wadud Pintur spoke on the occasion, District Awami League Convener Principal Khairul Anam Chowdhury Salim, Joint Convener Advocate Shihab Uddin Shaheen and Municipal Mayor Sahid Ullah Khan Sohail spoke. Also present among others were Noakhali Sadar Upazila Awami League President Alhaj Abduz Jaher, General Secretary Advocate Ataur Rahman Nacher, District Jubo League Convener Eamon Bhatt, Sadar Upazila Vice Chairman Nur Alam Siddiqui Raju and others. Before this, the leaders and activists of the municipality, Sadar Upazila, Noakhali Science and Technology University took out a protest procession and gathered in front of the district Awami League office. In his speech, District Awami League Joint Convener Advocate Shihab Uddin addressed BNP and said that they have been defeated in the election. We will not stop. But anarchy, arson and petrol bombs in the name of movement. But we will not give up. Our Chhatra League, Youth League is enough. He also said, BNP now believes in Hurricane. They have no faith in the grain of rice. Therefore, this leader called for the election of BNP in the symbol of hurricane.
