Ac land and Executive Magistrate Md Masud Rana launched the operation in the wake of allegations that crop land was being damaged as a result of illegal sand mining by Muhammad Iqbal, a newly elected member of Putibila Union in Lohagara Upazila. No one was arrested or fined for fleeing the scene. A dredger was set ablaze at the scene and 55,000 cubic feet of sand was seized.

It is learned that Muhammad Iqbal, a newly elected member of ward 7 of Putibila union of the upazila, had been extracting sand with dredger for a long time. As a result, the adjacent crop land is breaking down and going into the womb of the canal. Farmer Muhammad Hasan and Abul Qasim lodged a written complaint at the Upazila Executive Officer’s Office.
Executive Magistrate and Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Mohammad Masud Rana said the operation was carried out this morning in the wake of the allegations. At that time illegal sand was seized, dredger machine was destroyed and red flag was hung on the spot on the instructions of the Upazila Executive Officer. Newly elected member Iqbal was accused in the incident. A report in this regard will be sent to the Deputy Commissioner Sir. Legal action will be taken against newly elected member Muhammad Iqbal, an illegal sand miner, whose allegations against the member were proved by the locals. Besides, the seized sand will be sold at auction and deposited in the state treasury.
